Native American Journalist Association

The Native American Journalists Association was created to give a variety of indian journalists the opportunity to promote their ideas and cultures of the American Indian of today. The association is based out of Norman, Oklahoma. This is the heart of the Native American part of the country in the midwest and the Great Plains. This website and resource conveys much of the news and headlines regarding Native Americans in the area where they are located and around the country as well. One of the topics they do a great job of reviewing is the Washington Redskins football team logo and nickname controversy. NAJA does a great job of breaking this topic from all different perspectives and gives the reader an opportunity to form their own opinion rather than the article picking a bias for them. This and many of the other articles they have listed on their websites have to helped to give the reader more insight based on situations and events that the website does a great job of covering. The mission of NAJA is to help effectively spread and communicate the information of Native Americans from around the country.

Showed in the picture are the founders of NAJA gathered on the university of Penn State. The organization is tax exempt and they established a constitution when the organization was first founded in 1983 in Oklahoma. The future for the organization looked promising as they are setting goals such as rebuilding the brand for the organization and improving the media presence of NAJA. They want to continue to be a strong voice for the Native Americans of the US, and advocate fairness for the Indian community as well. This information has helped to realize that they Native American communities have a strong and bright future ahead of them. They have everything to be proud of and their will continue to be heard due to the strong backing NAJA.
